Our first meeting was Friday at NIMBY. We secured 4 new team members, which is great, but still short of what we need to bring DDI back to the playa. For a project of this magnitude - running the machine, creating a camp - we need people on board sooner rather than later. If you're considering your plans for burning man and Camp DDI is a possibility, then I'm encouraging you to follow up with us now and tell a friend.
Next meeting - Sunday brunch, April 9, NIMBY.

April and Beyond
Mon, April 10, 2006 - 11:36 AMEveryone who loves DDI owes a big thank you to the amazing, energetic crew that have stepped forward since March to become DDI Camp in 2006.
I think I speak for everyone there when I say that we are all extremely energized from our meeting on Sunday.
We have new members. We have a wiki. We have a mailing list.
We have DDI tech heads, eager to get the Machine out of storage, make repairs, and hit it up for a look overhaul.
We have two lovely kitchen goddesses, who actually want to give our skanky playa dusted asses a hot meal.
We have a Plumber, who is committed to keeping us clean and not harming the playa in the process. He's also going to run interference with us on playa with BM Org, being the experienced at that sort of thing kinda guy he is.
We have Krispy, shade mastah, morale booster, friend recruiter and all around workaholic in charge of shade, "so that only DDI players are Burninated, not camp members."
We have the folks at You Are That Pig, who have supported us from the beginning, generously sharing knowledge and their brunch buffet with this start-up crew. Expect to see more from this collaboration in the upcoming months. (They have a fundraiser on May 12 - I'll post deets. If they can make a camp meeting brunch fun, I shudder with anticipation to see what they do when they throw a party).
Thank you all.
DDI. You know you want it.

Yeah DDI!
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 8:36 PMGlad to hear DDI is coming back. I was in Blunderland last year (the red mushroom bar with an air conditioned chill space), which was part of BORG2. We are doing our own thing this year, as "Blunderland", and would love to camp near you. We are asking for placement near Apokiliptika (they are asking for either 3:00 plaza or on esplanade), and are also going to be asking for placement near you guys. In any event, you all are always welcome to drop buy for a cool afternoon retreat from the heat...we also will have the bus back, either as a Giant Snail or an Oil Refinery.
regards, Jafe

Re: Yeah DDI!
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 10:14 PMJafe,
I mentioned your tracked vehicle at DDI yesterday, and it was mentioned there was someone at NIMBY who was a "tracked vehicle guy"; and would probably be willing to help you out with your ignitor issue. But I forgot his name already... -

Re: Yeah DDI!
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 10:45 PMHi, Jafe! Of course we remember you guys- how could we not between you being such fine neighbors and also lending us those speakers? Steven- I remember you mentioning someone who needed help with electrical ignition for fire, is Jafe the guy? And where do tracked vehicles enter into it? I'm not sure who at NIMBY I'd call a "tracked vehicle guy", though there are a bunch that know wheeled vehicles inside and out.....maybe I'm missing the point. -

Re: Yeah DDI!
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 10:50 PMJafe is building a tracked vehicle (for Burning Man I assume!) and wants to have a "fire effect device" on it. And how to ignite the effect came up. This is being discussed on EPlaya.
In the discussion Sunday someone gave the name of someone at NIMBY who does tracked vehicles, or thinks they are cool, or something. -

Re: Yeah DDI!
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 11:04 PMKimric is building the Neverwas House on a very large tracked excavator. But if all Jafe need is flamethrower help I 'm sure there a many folks at Nimby who could give advice. -

Tracked Vehicle and flames
Tue, April 25, 2006 - 8:58 AMI am building a tracked bicycle, as in a recumbent bulldozer powered by two mad cyclists. Why? Because everyone I talked to said it cannot be done. After all the engineering, I do admit the top speed is likely to be pretty slow (2.5mph is my current estimate at 60rpm pedaling rate). But it has been fun, and will look deadly oitside Apokiliptika even if it doesn't actually move very fast (I am adding tow rings to the front just in case to ensure it will be out by the Man when it needs to be!)
The flame effect I want is a propane cannon with a whistle valve at the end of a 6' pipe (acting as the resevoir, maybe 100 cubic inches at 90psi) simulating the gun barrel of a tank. Since the end of the barrel will be >8' above the ground, keeping/igniting a pilot light remotely is my issue at the moment... and wondering how big of a fireball 100 cubic inches of propane is at 90 psi? Also how many shots I could expect out of a standard 20lb cylinder...

Re: Yeah DDI!
Wed, April 26, 2006 - 6:06 PMJustin, from Therm, is the guy I was talking about. He has a facination for tracked vehicles. He hangs out on the pyro tribe a lot (ch3ch2ch3.tribe.net). It looks like Matt's got the pilot ignition thing taken care of, though.
