You want to make big DDI Fire at burning man 2006? You want to work hard, make first ever DDI camp, be part of DDI crew? Then you come to DDI camp meeting!
DDI was a sensation on the playa, but the small crew who made it and ran it suffered some, uh, burnout issues. Also, no one could find the damn thing. This year, we want solve both problems by putting DDI in its very own theme camp on the Esplanade. We figure we need about 25-30 members to run DDI and also, create a cozy lil' camp complete with kitchen, showers, and meals.
We're hosting a preliminary Camp DDI meeting at our workshop space, open to everyone, to discuss how this will all work and to recruit camp members. Newbies and veterans alike are welcom. Come by. Eat some pizza. Play with a flamethrower, see pictures of DDI from last year. You know you want it.

Fri, March 10, 2006 - 5:41 PMI'll be camping with Spock Mt. but would dig volunteering on DDI. Last year you guys worked your buts off. You definitely need to train some extras on how to run your stuff so you can stand around a say "Hey I made that, wanna come back to my tent and let me show you something else I'm proud of." -

Sat, March 11, 2006 - 1:16 AMUm, why a Friday? Although by 8pm it MIGHT be late enough to miss some of the crappy assed traffic from the southy bay. Why not a Saturday or Sunday?
I will be really glad if DDI makes yet another splash on the playa, many people were just overwhelmed by DDI, and I DON'T mean those of us who were nearby, or part of BORG2.
Now, on to specifics, by "kitchen", do you mean one of those theme camps that want you to put money in, and they make meals? Um, wel, um, I will be happy to help out, but not with a "cooperative" kitchen. I eat dead animals, when I want them dead, usually (but not always) cokked and hot...

A cooperative kitchen, yes. It's nice to have some food and companionship before one heads out to run the Machine. -

Sat, March 11, 2006 - 3:06 PMSo the idea for the meal plan -- this is just the idea so far -- is that one person would be in charge of menu planning, purchasing, etc. Then three people would cook said the planned meal each night, probably a rotating crew. That way we can be sure of yummy meals ('cause we get to argue over the menu beforehand) without requring a dedicated staff of cooks.
And of course anyone can use the kitchen any time for their own food.

I guess I could make veggie spagetti. Or maybe split pea or onion soup. Potato corn chowder? (Never made it, but I like it.) I am trying to think of something I could make up ahead of time, stuff into ziplock bags, and have ready for an early week dinner (like Sunday night). -

Mon, March 20, 2006 - 12:45 PMYou don't necessarily have to plan the meals you are cooking. And we'll have a full and functional kitchen, so you can do as much cooking as you need to out there.
Or you can just decide you want nothing to do with food other than eating it... there's certainly enough else to do.
