Safety plans, special cups, flamining drinks...I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I could use a little guidance. Is there someone in charge of orientating and training volunteers? When I did a simple door shift at False Profit, there was someone in charge of briefing me, so I don't think this is such a bad / strange idea...

Tue, May 31, 2005 - 6:51 PMDoor shift tutorial:
Ask person for money. Take money. Let person who paid in. Kick person who did not pay out.
Bar is more complicated, but I will teach you from my vast body (ahem) of knowledge.

Tue, May 31, 2005 - 11:36 PMsee how drunk they are - your pour should be inversely proportional to their state of inebriation, but still charge them full pop.

Re: Help for the volunteers - !
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:35 AMYes, we can do this.
Robyn will be doing the bar stuff, as she's coordinating that. She will be training the first round of bartenders, and I imagine from there on out either she'll train each successive round or, more likely, bartenders will train their replacements. If you want to come when the party starts and hear it from Robyn directly, that might be more informative and you'll be less crazed :)
As for door shifts.. there is a little bit of nuance there. Technically the party is sliding scale, $10-$20. Door people, you are our best hope to make shitloads of money for the project! The challenge lies in getting people to pay $20 if possible. Flirt! Tease! Guilt-trip! Whatever you can. But don't be *too* much of a hardass. If someone can really only pay $10 or intends to pay $10, that's okay. But if you can manage to get people to pay extra, we will love you that much more!

Re: Help for the volunteers - !
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:52 AMDo we know what the bar will be serving yet? Are we serving from a list of drinks - or making anything people want? -
-
Re: Help for the volunteers - !
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 11:12 AMThe bar will be serving from a set list.
The non-flaming bar, up on the mezzanine, will be serving beer & mixed drinks. The beer is Sierra Nevada from a keg, and the mixed drinks will be, I believe, vodka tonics and vodka cranberry. Maybe vodka redbull too - not sure on that one yet.
The flaming bar will be serving some type of flaming shot. Still waiting to figure out what that one is. Robyn should have it firmed up by tonight. -

Wed, June 1, 2005 - 11:59 AMYes, this damn job is preventing me from putting together the drink list for ya'll. It will be firmed up tonight. I may even have to experiment with a few drinks this evening at home. -

Re: Help for the volunteers - !
Thu, June 2, 2005 - 11:00 PMwhen i was 14 or 15 my best friend rick took me to a party at a friends house where the parents were away. My older sister bought us some rum... I don't know why we wanted rum but she got us a 750 ml bottle of 151. rick thought he could handle it and drank about 6 rum and cokes. I did'nt know any better but rick drank faster than me so by me third drink he had finished the bottle. he was doing pretty good for a while even had some hotty digging him but then it was all too much. we went outside to get some air on the front steps. rick just sort of laid there trying to focus on one spot cuz he was spinning pretty bad. i was getting bored and and trying to get him to walk home. i nudged him with my knee and said " come on rick lets go" he then turned towards me and threw up on my shoes. ah to be young again.
years later my swedish cousin jessica drank 16 oz.s of 151 with mountain dew in about 2 hours and fell on her face resulting in a trip to the emergency room for 8 stiches to close the gash on her chin.

Fri, June 3, 2005 - 9:14 AMThe last time I got drunk on 151 was at a midnight double feature of Eraserhead and Night of the Living Dead at the University Theater. I don't really remember either of them to this day.
Bring it on. -

Fri, June 3, 2005 - 9:13 PMGood thing we're bringing my car, to transport the stripper pole.
Lush.
Ladies (heck, and gentlemen), take note. Platypus likes to be groped when he's drunk...and he'll be wearing a kilt.
