Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday! We had about 10 people total working on stuff. Extra thanks to Reed and Nicole who showed up to help us figure out gameplay and pad stuff (and to Nicole in particular for spending 3 hours getting pipe!). Also big thanks to everyone who slaved away at the electronics - not the most *fun* work, but very necessary!
We got a big chunk done - the operator control panel is nearing completion, the electronics boards are much further along, we have a working proxsuit gasket seal modification, the pad switches are in place, we have a design and parts for the screen stand, and the flamethrowers are about 70% complete.
We still need help today! Today's plan includes building the rest of the flamethrowers (plumbing and metalworking), assembling the screen stand out of pipe, finishing the electronics work, finishing the control panel, additional sewing/snapping of proxsuits, making wooden painted signs, and much more.
If you can come lend a hand, please do. NIMBY (www.nimbyspace.org) from now until the cows come home. If you need more info, call me on my celly: 626.482.2974. FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!!

Sun, July 10, 2005 - 8:02 PMSorry I couldn't be there...I found myself with my first free weekend in months, and the last free one until well after burning man, so I took the opportunity to get a little of my own life sheez done.

Re: Build day 1 was a success: come for build day 2!
Sun, July 10, 2005 - 11:15 PMTotally understandable.. don't be sorry! We've had a good stream of volunteers today and we've gotten lots done. Not that we wouldn't have loved your company! But we're all feeling pretty optimistic about having things ready for fire arts.
And yes, I'm sure we'll see you soon :)

Re: Build day 1 was a success: come for build day 2!
Sun, July 10, 2005 - 9:26 PMI am such a klutz. I must do something to make up for stripping the hex screw on the hole cutting bit and making the switch hole too big. Perhaps if I could get the control panel dimensions and hole sizes, locations I could make another one in my shop at home and swap out the one I messed up. That would make me feel better at any rate. I will also replace the hole drilling set next time I am at the hardware store.
I hope you guys get everything up and running in time for the big fire arts festival this week. I'll be there Wednesday night at least.
And thank you to everyone for letting me share the experience with Nick. I think he got a taste of NIMBY and the Burning Man way.

Mon, July 11, 2005 - 2:43 AM>I am such a klutz
Hey, don't stress about it! We're going to have the whole thing put together by tomorrow evening, so it wouldn't be worth your time to make a replacement since we wouldn't be able to use it. Plus there are worse things than a too-big switch hole, and also I think we can just get a bigger switch, enalrge the hole, and then there will be no problem at all!
As for the hole saw- don't worry about replacing that. It was a cheapo set, now we know how cheap. These things happen.....
Thanks for the help!
Just got back from NIMBY. Must go to work in 5 hours. Squeeeeeee!

Re: Build day 1 was a success: come for build day 2!
Tue, July 12, 2005 - 5:57 PMThursday night it'll already be installed at the Crucible and we run it for the pricey gala opening. So I think we'll be OK by then. Certainly much need for help between FAF and bman, though! -
